Prince Edward County High School (PECHS) senior Malik Hurtt placed first in a recent Farm-to-Table Agricultural Education Conference essay contest. Malik received a $100 check and he and his father, Darnell Hurtt, of Farmville, won seats for the Vice Presidential Debate at Longwood University in October. Malik attended the conference along with fellow PECHS Future Farmers of America members and Agricultural Education teacher Emily Camden. The Virginia Farm Bureau sponsored the conference, during which Malik and other students were challenged to write an essay concerning the future of agriculture and agri-science. Here, Prince Edward County Superintendent Dr. Barbara Johnson presents Malik with a certificate of recognition during the Prince Edward County School Board’s December meeting.
