The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to communitycalendar@farmvilleherald.com.

DECEMBER 16-18

LIVE NATIVITY, 6:30-8:30 p.m. all three days at Farmville Church of Christ, 1401 Milnwood Road, Farmville. This is a free drive-through telling of the biblical story of Jesus.

DECEMBER 17

DILLWYN CHRISTMAS PARADE, 10 a.m. Stop by town hall after the parade to visit with Santa and enjoy refreshments.

ORDINATION SERVICE, 3 p.m. for Minister Loretta Bailey and Minister Angela Cook at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak.

BINGO, at Cartersville Volunteer Rescue Squad has been cancelled. Organizers hope to see you the third Saturday in January.

APPOMATTOX CHORAL SOCIETY, 7:30 p.m. directed by Dr. Mark Landry, in the sanctuary of Liberty Baptist Church, Appomattox. This evening of the arts is sponsored by Appomattox Christian Academy, a mission of St. Andrew’s Reformed Episcopal Church, as a gift to the community during the season of giving and is free to all. General seating begins at 7 p.m. This performance of the Christmas portion of Handel’s famous Oratorio, Messiah, includes local guest soloists and choir members accompanied by a full Chamber Orchestra comprised of professional area musicians. BRUNSWICK STEW, at New Life Assembly of God at the corner of Mahan Road and Route 45, to benefit church missions. Cost will be $7 a quart and will be ready at noon.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 4 p.m. at High Rock Baptist Church. Guests will be the Blackstone Community Chorus. Please come out and support this program given by the Youth Ministry of High Rock Baptist, Rice.

QUARTERLY MEETING, 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church. This is a change from the regular meeting time.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 5 p.m. (starting with dinner) at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, Route 15, Dillwyn, weather permitting. The play “A Christmas to Believe In” will follow the dinner.

DECEMBER 17 and 18

LIVE NATIVITY SCENE, 6-8 p.m. at Buckingham Baptist Church, 24234 N. James Madison Hwy. in the Gold Hill area. This a drive-by nativity with refreshments served afterward.

DECEMBER 18

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA and CHRISTMAS CAROLING, 9:30 a.m. (breakfast) and 5 p.m (caroling) at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland.

CHRISTMAS MUSICAL DRAMA, 6 p.m. by the cast and choir of Hatcher Baptist Church, at the intersection of Route 617 (Gravel Hill Road) and Route 622 (Trent’s Mill Road), Cumberland. Come out and receive a Christmas present. It will be in the form of the Christmas musical drama, “Close to Christmas.” Refreshments will follow. “SING CHRISTMAS” MUSICAL, 6 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, on Route 636 at Sheppards.

CANTATA, 7 p.m. at Cartersville Baptist Church entitled “Holding on to Christmas.” The cantata will tell the Christmas story in word and song. The narration will be read by Fred and Tina Shumaker. The musical will include solos, adult choir and a children’s choir. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 11 a.m. at New Witt Baptist Church entitled “A New Home for Christmas” New Witt is on Farmville Highway South. The Rev. Winston Bland is pastor. The public is welcome.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 3 p.m. presented by Mt. Moriah Upper Room Baptist Church in Tuggle and Gravel Hill Baptist Church. All are welcome.

DECEMBER 20

PIEDMONT VETERANS COUNCIL, will hold its monthly meeting on at 9 a.m. at Merk’s Restaurant. The special guest speaker is Treva Bond from the Lynchburg VA Medical Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Any veteran with questions concerning VA Medical Care, benefits and services should plan to attend this meeting. Private, state, federal and any medical providers who serve veteran clients with medical care are encouraged to attend as well as anyone with questions concerning the VA Choice Card.

BLUE CHRISTMAS SERVICE, 5 p.m. at Oakwood UMC, 1291 Columbia Road, Columbia. Join our offering of an uplifting Blue Christmas Service. All are welcome.

DECEMBER 20-21

‘THE NATIVITY,’ 7 and 8 p.m. each evening at Muddy Creek Baptist Church, 3470 Trenholm Road, Powhatan. From Cumberland Court House, go east on Route 60 for 10 miles and take a left on Trenholm Road. The Nativity will be in a field behind the church.

DECEMBER 21

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 6:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland.

BLOOD DRIVE, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Centra Southside Community Hospital, 800 Oak St., Farmville.

THIRD ANNUAL CELEBRATION FOR JESUS, 7 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church, 837 Guinea Road, Farmville. This year’s theme is “Jesus is the Light of the World” with scripture reference from John 8:12. The Rev. Irma Watson is pastor. All are welcome.

ADVENT SERVICES/LUNCHEON, noon at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church, 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland (across from the courthouse). The theme this year is “Do Not Be Afraid.” The speaker will be the Rev.  Lewis Brandt speaking on the topic of “Fear Not.” The scripture reading is from John 14: 27. Please join us in the Social Hall.

JANUARY 5

BEEKEEPING BASIC WORKSHOP, 6:30 p.m. at the Cumberland Extension Office, Route 60 across from Cumberland Middle school complex. Topics covered will be general bee information, basic equipment, timelines, social order, bee biology, and further education opportunities!
