DECEMBER 2
WORKSHOP, at Longwood’s Environmental Education Center, Lancer Park at the end of Cormier Drive, Farmville, on farm energy management practices and technologies. This event will feature Dennis Brothers, of Auburn University’s National Poultry Education Center. Brothers will present information on LED lighting and best practices for generator maintenance. The content will be oriented toward poultry farms. The session will also feature representatives from the USDA, and a technical service provider discussing USDA farm energy programs. DECEMBER 3
ST. THERESA’S WINTER WEAR FUNDRAISER, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, 709 Buffalo St., Farmville. There will be coats, jackets, boots, hats, gloves, etc. Buy one item, get an equal or lower price item for free. Brand new children jackets giveaways by KOC. Door prizes to be awarded. All funds raised held support the church.
CORNERSTONE YOUTH PROGRAM AND DEACONESS HAT RALLY, 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 16 Horsepen Road, Farmville. The deaconess will have a Christmas Hat Rally during the youth program. The Rev. Lee Watkins Jr. is pastor. All are welcome.
BRUNCH WITH SANTA, noon, at the Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department, 145 Cumberland Road, sponsored by the auxiliary. Menu will be egg casserole, sausages, muffins, pancakes, iced tea, coffee, O.J. and milk. Everyone is welcome to visit and eat with Santa. Please make a donation at the door to support the fire department.
LADIES IN HATS, 5 p.m. at Apostolic Faith Church of All Nations women’s auxiliary. There will be special guest musical performers, parade of hats, and great fellowship. Evangelist Mary Abraham, president, welcomes all to attend.
HOME-COOKED DINNERS, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Mary Lou Gould, 2521 Cumberland Road, Farmville. Dinners are $8 each with proceeds to benefit the needy for Christmas. Menu consists of baked or fried chicken, pigs feet, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, string beans, greens, rolls, muffins, cakes and pies. For more information, call (434) 392-4415.

HOLIDAY DONATION DRIVE, sponsored by SPCA COOLE at the Hampton Inn of Farmville. Collection of goods the shelter animals need, bake sale, raffles, silent auction and live auction. Pet photos with Santa and the Grinch will also be back. Tickets for Yeti raffle will be on sale for $1. Guest appearances by Captain Tami Gray and Nikki-Dee Ray from Channel 6.
CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE, 2 p.m. at Red Hill. Guests will be treated to docent-led interpretations in the decorated buildings. Complimentary Brunswick stew will be provided by the Charlotte Lions Club and hot mulled cider and homemade cookies will be served from the hearth kitchen, as well. The gift shop will be offering a 10 percent discount on your purchase. The Patrick Henry Auxiliary will also be selling hand-crafted boxwood wreaths and kissing balls (made from local boxwood) as long as supplies last. CANDLELIGHT SERVICE, 3 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Appomattox. Special guests will be the Rev. Timothy Jackson II and the congregation of the Baptist Union Baptist Church of Dillwyn. The public is welcome. The Rev. Dr. C.L. Gray is pastor.
NO SUNDAY SCHOOL, at Calvary Baptist Church on Sandy River Road, Burkeville. The regular worship service will be held at 11 a.m.

ADVENT SEASON 6:30 p.m. at the Curdsville Community Center, 122 School Road, Route 633, just off U.S. 15. There will be Christmas carols, and ham, turkey and dressing will be provided. Please bring your favorite covered dish or dessert. Everyone is welcome.

LIONS CLUB OF FARMVILLE MEETING, noon-1 p.m. at the Woodland Community Center on Cobb Street. The featured guest speaker will be Dr. Bradley W. Kesser, a professor of otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, of the University of Virginia Hospital. Kesser specializes in congenital ear disease, hearing loss, dizziness and balance disorders, and other related conditions. He has also served on the board for the Virginia Lions Hearing Foundation in Charlottesville.
HEART OF VA BEEKEEPERS TO MEET, 7 p.m.at the Prince Edward County Extension Office across from Lowe’s in Farmville. The holiday potluck supper and election will be held. MEET AND GREET, 6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland.
ADVENT SERVICES/LUNCHEON, noon at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church. The theme this year is “Do Not Be Afraid.” The speaker will be the Rev. Rich Meiser speaking on the topic of “Reforming Fear.” The scripture reading is from Psalms 27. Visitors are asked to join at the social hall of the church, 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland (across from the courthouse).

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS, will take place Dec. 9-11 and Dec. 16-18 from 5-8 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake State Park. Cost of admission is a donated toy. Pancake dinner with Santa will be at 5 p.m. on Dec. 11. These events are part of the Cumberland Christmas Mother campaign.

COOKIES AND MORE, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. presented by the Farmville United Methodist Women at Farmville UMC, 212 High St., Farmville in the social hall basement. Purchase homemade cookies, candy, pies, seasonal crafts and gifts. Carry-out or dine-in lunch will be available for $5.

AGENT ORANGE SYMPOSIUM FOR VIETNAM ERA VETERANS, 1-4 p.m. at the STEPS building in Farmville, 225 Industrial Park Road. There will be special guest speakers, and Vietnam War veterans and their families will be invited to participate in an open forum about the health effects they’ve experienced because of wartime exposure to Agent Orange. There will be light refreshments and some break-out sessions to meet with various agencies who can assist with educational information to include veteran service officers. BOOK READING AND TRAIN RIDE, Experience the excitement of beloved children’s book The Polar Express with the annual book reading and train ride at the Buckingham Branch library. This year, the train leaves at 3:45 p.m. from the Buckingham Branch Railroad Station. Children in second through fifth grade will ride the train and hear the story read aloud, then meet back up with parents and siblings at the library for cookie decorating and a visit from Santa. ANNUAL ANTEBELLUM SAINT NICHOLAS, at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park Visitor Center. Saint Nicholas will receive visitors and children of all ages. Come by and have an image struck with the jolly man himself. While waiting, children and adults can partake in arts and crafts stations such as coloring, making bird feeders out of pine cones and many more. Pictures will be taken at the Visitor Center on Saturday, Dec. 10 from noon-4 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 2-4 p.m. Admission is free.
DECEMBER 11
HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Appomattox Court House National Historic Park. The village will be decorated with freshly made hand-crafted wreaths made from local greenery and will offer a glimpse of 1860s Virginia when families celebrated a more simply decorated, Civil War-era Christmas. There will also be a children’s craft station, where old-fashioned Christmas ornaments can be made as keepsakes. The Visitor Center will be the stop for hot coffee and refreshments. 2016 CUMBERLAND CHRISTMAS PARADE, 2 p.m. in the village of Cumberland Court House. The 75th Anniversary of World War II will be the theme this year. Entries should in some way be connected to this time frame in history. It might be a tree decorated at the time of war or a song that was made popular. Entry forms may be picked up at one of the following places: NAPA in Cumberland, Custom Interiors in Cumberland, Ashby Antiques in Farmville or from Stephany Johnson in the courthouse building. You may also ask for one to be emailed to you by going to: barbmein@aol.com. There is a $10. entry fee to help with expenses, churches, school organizations, county officials and civic organizations are exempt from this fee. Dec. 1 is the deadline for applications.

FREE CONCERT, 7:30 p.m., by the Heart of VA Community Band at Wygal Hall (Music Building), Longwood University. Featuring holiday favorites and classics including Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride. The audience is urged to sing along to the carols.
DECEMBER 13
VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE, 2 p.m., New Century Hospice of Farmville, 201 North Main St., Suite 300. Come by to meet the team, enjoy some refreshments, and find out about the huge difference volunteers make in the lives of patients. This is a chance to discern if hospice volunteering is right for you. If you decide to get involved, applications will be available.
