As part of a longtime tradition, Lucy Millinder’s Buckingham County High School Spanish students have used the holiday season to support those in need through Heifer Project International. Heifer links communities while helping to bring sustainable agriculture to areas with a long history of poverty. Monies donated to Heifer provide the opportunity for families in developing countries to purchase animals such as cattle, chickens and bees. This provides both food and reliable income through agricultural products such as milk, eggs and honey. The Buckingham Spanish students also raised money to send to Haiti to aid with Hurricane Matthew relief efforts. The fundraising project will also allow a family in Bolivia to buy a llama and a family in Guatemala to purchase a bee colony.
