On Oct. 5, the Farmville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. served as a sponsor for the Vice Presidential Debate watch party held at STEPS Inc. Members of the chapter served as hostesses for the event where they had the opportunity to mix and mingle with the crowd and dignitaries who were in attendance. During the evening, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority members were also interviewed by WRIC Channel 8 news of Richmond. After watching the Vice Presidential Debate, those in attendance were honored with a visit from several dignitaries and rousing speeches from Jane Dittmar, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives; Gov. Terry McAuliffe; and Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine. As part of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s national and international efforts to provide an array of public service initiatives via the Five-Point Program Thrust, promoting political awareness and involvement, the 2016 debate was an opportunity to share with the community the importance of the election process.
