AMELIA (3-2) AT
PRINCE EDWARD (2-4)
Kickoff: 7 p.m.
Last season: Amelia 61, Prince Edward 16
Coach’s game notes: The Eagles are galvanized by the prospect of playing in their homecoming game, but they will not be at full health. Quarterback Joel Thomas will likely be out with an ankle sprain he has been nursing for the past two weeks.
The Raiders are a team that likes to spread defenses out for the purpose of running the ball up the middle with their young but fast tailbacks behind an active offensive line.
On defense, they are strong and fly to the ball, and the Eagles must find a way to neutralize their speed.
RANDOLPH-HENRY (0-6) AT
CUMBERLAND (1-4)
Kickoff: 7 p.m.
Last season: R-H 42, Cumberland 6
Coach’s game notes: The Dukes are looking to make the second half of their season better than the first as they prepare for their homecoming game.
They will have to play without senior center Tyruss Sims, who is out due to a concussion. Freshman Blake Barker starts in his place, while sophomore Kahare Sutton will start at quarterback.
Looking for their first win, the Statesmen are a team similar to the Dukes, trying out a lot of different looks, searching for something that works.
On offense, they have used formations like the spread and the power I among others, and on defense, they have used four- and five-men fronts.
FUQUA (4-0) AT
ROANOKE CATHOLIC (5-1)
Kickoff: 7 p.m.
Last season: Roanoke Catholic 34, Fuqua 14
Coach’s game notes: In some ways, this will be the Falcons’ biggest test this season defensively. The Celtics employ the Delaware Wing T-style offense, which emphasizes the run, and they do it behind some of the best offensive lineman that the Falcons will see all year long.
The key for Falcons defense will be finding a way to shut down the Celtics’ three or four top plays, forcing them into third-and long situations.
The Celtics can burn teams with the pass every now and then, so the Falcons secondary will need to be attentive throughout the game.
BUCKINGHAM (1-5) at
GOOCHLAND (6-0)
Kickoff: 7 p.m.
Last season: Buckingham 35, Goochland 21
Coach’s game notes: The Knights have changed up how they are practicing, which has given them some new energy as they prepare. They have all their players practicing together from junior varsity to varsity, and they have been using a high tempo.
Some players will be missing from the lineup on Friday, but the team is in good health overall.
The Bulldogs feature a double wing offense, with two wide receivers and a tight end every now and then. They have a run-oriented attack.
They are balanced defensively, typically using a four-man front with two safeties.
