BRUNSWICK STEW / BAKE / CHURCH-WIDE YARD SALE, beginning at 8 a.m. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1835 Cumberland Road, Farmville. Stew should be ready to sell by the quart at 11 a.m. There will also be hot dogs with fixin’s for sale. Stew will be $7 per quart; baked goods will be priced individually. The community is invited to participate in the yard sale. For space, call the church at (434) 392-7244, 9 a.m.-noon, Tuesday-Friday.
FAMILY FUN FESTIVAL, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, 947 Trents Mill Road, Cumberland. Featuring games and prizes, pony rides, hayrides, inflatables, caterpillar walks and vendors. A yard sale will begin at 7 a.m. There will be free food and more.
INDOOR YARD AND BOOK SALE, 7 a.m. to benefit the Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary at the firehouse, 2145 Cumberland Road. If you wish to donate any items, call Nancy at (434) 391-1250. Please do not drop at the firehouse as there will not be someone there at all times.
ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL AND BRUNSWICK STEW, noon at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland, just off Route 60 (James Anderson Highway). Stew will be $7 a quart. There will also be cakewalks, face painting and games; at 4 p.m. there will be a hayride, hotdogs and s’mores. The public is invited. ANNUAL FREEDOM BANQUET, of The Prince Edward Branch of the NAACP will be held at the Fireman’s Sports Arena in Farmville at 4 p.m. The theme of this year’s banquet is NAACP: Continuing the Legacy. This year, the branch will be honoring Dr. Odessa Pride, retired educator; Shirby Scott-Brown, retired educator; Armstead ‘Chuckie’ Reid, vice mayor, Farmville, Gerald Spates, town manager, and Francis Wood, general manager, WFLO radio station. The guest speaker will be Dr. Alfred Roberts, president of Southside Virginia Community College. The tickets for the event are $30. FALL FOR TWIN LAKES FESTIVAL, noon-4 p.m., at Twin Lakes State Park. Come and enjoy favorites such as hay rides, pumpkin patch, bounce house, crafts for all ages and much more. Pumpkins will be sold for $3.

ROCKING CHAIR REFLECTIONS, 2 p.m., at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park Visitor Center, final presentation entitled “The Immortal 600.” Though this program is free to the public, donations to our Friends of Sailor’s Creek Battlefield volunteer support group are always welcome.
PASTOR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1909 Cartersville Road, for Pastor Donnie Brown. The day will begin with morning worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Ann Lawrence, pastor of Zion Grove Baptist Church, New Canton will bring the message. Following the morning service will be our anniversary luncheon. The Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of Rocky Mt Baptist Church, Cumberland will be the guest minister. He will be accompanied by his choir and ushers. All are invited to attend.
145th CHURCH ANNIVERSARY, 4 p.m., at Petersville Baptist Church, New Canton. Guest speaker will be Minister Lena Patton, assistant pastor of Deliverance Church of Christ, Gladstone. Music will be provided by the Glorious Church of God #2 of Richmond. Please note the 8 a.m. worship service has been cancelled.
GIANT GARAGE SALE, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., 55 Trents Mill Road, Cumberland (1/4-mile from Route 60). Includes Larry’s BBQ. There will be a lot of items for sale and a bake sale. Items will include toys, silver, furniture, linens, dishes and antiques. Proceeds will benefit Cumberland’s Center Cemetery Association.
ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZENS SERVICE, 2:30 p.m. at First Rock Baptist Church. The Rev. Walter Fells and the Mercy Seat Baptist Church choir, ushers and congregants will be the special guests. The public is invited to come out and help honor senior citizens.

THE CONJURING, 7 p.m. at the Longwood Cabin, 1401 Johnston Drive, Farmville. The showing of this haunting movie marks the return of the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts’ (LCVA) Cabin Film Series. Prior to the screening, LCVA’s Emily Grabiec will lead a discussion of “creepiness” itself and how The Conjuring, with all its references to dolls, toys and afflictions, relates to the current LCVA exhibition Testimony: Amber Groome. Campfire-themed refreshments will be served and a free shuttle will operate between Longwood University’s Greenwood Library and Longwood Cabin beginning at 5:30 p.m. The screening is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

TRUNK OR TREAT, 5-7 p.m. at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church. The Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin Trunk or Treat celebration will consist of games, crafts, food, drinks and lots of treats. So, get that great costume ready and come and enjoy the fun. Payne Memorial United Methodist Church is located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, across from the courthouse.
ANNUAL MEN AND WOMEN’S DAY, 3 p.m. at Aspen Hill Baptist Church of Brookneal. The preacher for the occasion will be the Rev. Jerry Streat, pastor, Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackston. Music will be rendered by the Rev. Bill Davis and the Set Free Gospel Singers. A repast will be served after the service.
