The deadline to submit applications to be appointed to the nation’s military academies — U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy — is Monday.
Congressman Robert Hurt said he welcomes the opportunity to nominate “outstanding candidates” to any of the service academies.
“I encourage those who are interested to send their applications by Monday for consideration. Best of luck to the students seeking to join the honorable ranks of our nation’s servicemen and women,” Hurt said in a press release.
The honor of being appointed to an academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years after graduation.
For the application and more information, contact Lauren Andrews in Hurt’s Farmville office at (434) 414-8223. Potential nominees may also go to http:/hurt.house.gov, hover over “5th District Services” in the top menu bar and choose “Military Academy Nominations” from the drop down menu.
