James Guthrie Anderson, Sr.

James Guthrie Anderson Sr., 84, of Winchester, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 17, 2016. He was born in Prince Edward County on March 28, 1932 and grew up on a dairy farm, the son of John Guthrie and Lena Haines Anderson.
He served his country in the Army and received his B.S. in Agricultural Education from Virginia Tech. He worked for the John Deere Company as a Territory Manager. After his retirement, he continued his work with John Deere dealers as a salesman at Trible Equipment in Warrenton and Carlyle and Anderson in Winchester. He told people his blood ran green. He took pride in working in his yard and vegetable garden.
James married Cora Helen Fry on August 22, 1964 at Highland Memorial Presbyterian Church in Winchester where he was a faithful, lifelong member.
Along with his wife, Cora Helen, he is survived by his children; James G. Anderson Jr. of Centreville, Margaret Anderson Eldridge and her husband, Matthew of Charlottesville, and Thomas L. Anderson of Costa Rica; brothers, Henry Chesterman Anderson of Prince Edward County and Charles Thomas Anderson and his wife, Holly, of Richmond; and three granddaughters, Anna, Isabel, and Uma. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Walton Anderson of Crozet.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Winchester.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 23 at Union Cemetery, 323 N. King Street, Leesburg, VA, with the Rev. Waverly Reams officiating.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 at Highland Memorial Presbyterian Church, 446 Highland Avenue, Winchester, VA with the Rev. Mary Locke officiating. All are invited to a reception at the Anderson home following the service.
