Hampden-Sydney falls 42-20 to Ferrum on gridiron

The Hampden-Sydney College football team lost 42-20 to Ferrum College at Salem Football Stadium on Saturday afternoon after jumping out to a 20-7 lead.

On the day, the Tigers tallied 341 yards of total offense but were hampered by five turnovers. Alec Cobb (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) was 26-of-42 passing for 325 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Owen Costello (South Riding/Paul VI) had a strong game with nine catches for 143 yards and a score. Carter Cunningham (Farmville/Fuqua) had seven catches for 98 yards.

Defensively, the Tigers allowed 485 yards of offense on 345 rushing and 140 passing. Chad Vanlandingham (Mechanicsville/Atlee) led all players with 11 tackles.
