Guimaraes, Chase honored at convocation

Hampden-Sydney College basketball student-athletes Guilherme Guimaraes (Ribeirão Preto, Brazil/Miller School) and Nick Chase (Wilmington, N.C./Coastal Christian) were both recipients of prestigious awards at the college’s opening convocation.
Guimaraes received the President’s Award for excellence of character and scholarship. The Brazilian native is heavily involved on campus. Among his extracurricular activities include being a resident advisor, a member of the Student Honor Court, and he participates in the Freshman Leadership Program and the Society of ‘91 Student Leadership Program. Among other honors, he is a Davis Fellow and Patrick Henry Scholar.
Chase received the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award for academic excellence. The award is given to the student with the second-highest GPA in his class. He is additionally a resident advisor. This summer, Chase went on two medical mission trips, one to Ecuador and another to Bolivia. He has previously received the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award and an award for freshman excellence in general chemistry.
