Katelyn Showalter recently received a Sonny Merriman scholarship in the amount of $500.

Showalter is currently enrolled as a freshman student at Ferrum College. Her major is Liberal Arts with a minor in Elementary Education.

She said she wants to become a teacher so she can give children knowledge they can use for the rest of their lives.
