Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is seeking volunteers to assist in a trail widening project on the park’s History/Nature Trail on Saturday. Volunteers will meet park staff at the Lee’s Headquarters pull-off on Route 24 at 9 a.m. The project will conclude at approximately 4 p.m. The project will be along a 200-foot section of trail from Lee’s Headquarters. Volunteers will use hand shovels, hoes and other digging tools to provide safer access for hikers and runners, and are encouraged to wear proper shoes for the trail as they will be hiking about 1 mile to the work area and back. Volunteers are responsible for snacks and lunches. Water, tools and equipment, including safety gloves, will be provided. Volunteers should contact Alyssa Holland, volunteer coordinator by noon Friday at (434) 352-8987 ext. 234 or alyssa_holland@nps.gov.
