On Sunday, Mt. Zion Baptist Church of New Canton will begin its celebration of homecoming. Dr. Fred Anderson of the Baptist Historical Society in Richmond will be preaching the morning worship service. Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m. with morning worship at 11 a.m. Following morning worship, there will be a dedication of the markers around the church. Lunch will follow immediately after the dedication. Although there will be no afternoon song service, revival begins Sunday at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Don Campbell and will continue each evening through Wednesday. There will be various speakers preaching each night and music will be featured each evening from 7-7:30 p.m. All are welcome to be a part of this special time.

During the month of August, the Beulah M. Wiley Fitness Center of the Central VA Community Health Center (CVCHC), 25892 N. James Madison Hwy., in New Canton, is offering a body sculpt class Mondays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. Light hand weights are used in this class to perform various exercises such as bicep curls, squats, lunges, etc. Since this is a low impact class, it is appropriate for both young as well as older people, providing a great workout to tone the entire body. Don’t forget the yard sale and blood drive being held at the CVCHC, Saturday from 7:30-11:30 a.m. For more information call (434) 581-3271, ext. 10601.

Join the Buckingham County Habitat for Humanity for an all-day dining fundraiser on Wednesday at Pino’s Restaurant in Dillwyn. Other donations are also welcome for the building fund for the homes on Conner Street in Dillwyn.

Have questions about what the Buckingham County Elections Office does? In addition to election day activities, the elections office works on registering citizens to vote, updating voter registration addresses, verifying petition signatures, assessing polling places, training people to assist in elections, providing election district maps, processing campaign disclosure finance statements, making improvements for future elections and much more. With the presidential election season here, the Buckingham County Elections Office would like to direct attention to “Citizen Portal” — a very helpful website maintained by the Virginia Department of Elections at www.elections.virginia.gov. There, you may check your voter registration status, register to vote (if you have a Virginia Driver’s license), update your name or address, apply for an absentee ballot and read about two proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution.
