Former Saint Joseph’s forward Obi Romeo has transferred to the Longwood University men’s basketball program, fourth-year Lancers head coach Jayson Gee announced Monday.
At 6 feet 10 inches tall and 245 pounds, Romeo immediately becomes one of the biggest players in the Big South, rivaled only by 6-foot-10-inch, 240-pound Gardner-Webb forward L’Hassane Niangane.
Romeo is a former three-star high school recruit by ESPN.com, which also ranked him the No. 3 recruit in West Virginia as a high school senior at Greenbrier East in 2014.
As a true freshman at Saint Joe’s, Romeo played in four games and averaged 1.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks across 6.5 minutes per game. He comes to Longwood as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining after a sophomore season at Pensacola State in which he averaged 2.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game.
He is one of six eligible newcomers to Longwood’s roster this season.
