On Thursday at 6:30 p.m., the Sweeney Summer Concert Series at Appomattox Court House National Historic Park will feature the Sleepy Eyed Jay Blues Project. Visitors are invited to bring chairs and blankets to the front lawn of the McLean House and enjoy this free event. The Sweeney Summer Concert Series, sponsored by the Appomattox 1865 Foundation, honors the legacy of town native Joel Sweeney and highlights his contributions to American music.

This concert will feature the Sleepy Eyed Jay Project — a side project of John Jay, vocalist for Richmond band the Bush League. Sleepy Eyed has enlisted the aid of fellow Bush Leaguers Brad Moss (guitar) and Royce Folks (bass). Their goal is to “take listeners back to the days of Robert Johnson, Junior Kimbrough, Skip James, Howlin’ Wolf, and Muddy Waters.”
