Counselors and staff hosting the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts’ annual Youth Conservation Camp unanimously voted to award Brandon Enders as its Male Camper of the Week. Brandon attended the camp July 10-16 at Virginia Tech as one of four high school students on scholarships from the Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District. The district serves Buckingham and Cumberland counties. The other three scholarship campers were James Guajardo, Te’Osha Taylor and Alex Wood. The camper of the week award is given to a student who is engaged in all camp activities and shows respect to their peers and presenters throughout the week.

During the camp, students currently enrolled in grades nine through 12 learned about various subjects including lake ecology, fisheries management, turfgrass management and beekeeping, among others. Other activities included hiking; swimming; and touring the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Forest Products and Dairy Science & Swine Centers.
