The Cumberland County School Board recognized Cumberland High School junior Holly Tillett during its August meeting for attending the Virginia Space Coast Scholars program.
Holly attended the program at NASA Wallops Flight Facility and the Chincoteague Bay Field Station from July 23-29.
She was one of 120 students from across the state invited to attend this special program.
According to a press release, VSCS is a program for high school rising juniors focusing on the science, engineering and technology integral to current missions at the Wallops facility and Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport.
The free program is designed by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium to inspire students who possess technical and/or scientific interests and are motivated to learn about the many different opportunities that NASA offers.
The program features two key elements: a dynamic online science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning experience featuring five modules; and a seven-day residential summer academy at Wallops on Virginia’s Wallops Island.
