Vandalism suspect is juvenile

A 17-year-old juvenile confessed to vandalizing several locations on South Main and Mill streets in Farmville on July 6, police say.

The suspect was identified at about 12:17 a.m. Friday after police stopped a red Ford Mustang traveling at a high rate of speed on Graham Road. “After conducting a traffic stop, a 17-year-old juvenile was identified as the driver and a bag of suspected marijuana and cans of spray paint were found inside the vehicle,” a Farmville Police press release stated.

The suspect also confessed to vandalizing other locations Thursday, police said.

“The juvenile was released to his parents and charges are pending,” the release stated.

While the incidents are under investigation, police say it’s unknown whether the latest spray paintings are connected to those reported on A, Second and Orchard streets June 28, when police received seven calls about vandalized vehicles.

“Vehicles had been spray painted with white spray paint and two vehicles had windows damaged,” the June release stated. “Each vehicle received a swipe of paint along one side. There were also reports of the word ‘PURGE’ and some profanity being spray painted in the street.”

Anyone with information on the incidents should call Farmville Police at (434) 392-3332.
