The Dixie Youth All-Star baseball season has once again afforded young players the opportunity to make their community proud, and they have come through.

We offer commendation to multiple teams across various age levels for how they performed in their respective district tournaments.

The Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) Instructional Machine Pitch All- Star team overcame an initial loss to emerge as the champion of the Dixie Youth District 5 Instructional All-Star Tournament.

The squad of 7- and 8-year olds lost its first game of the tourney 12-11 to the Lunenburg County All-Stars. But then it recovered to defeat Crewe- Burkeville 17-1 and had to face Lunenburg again in the championship. Needing two wins to claim the title, PEFYA made it happen, with a 13-3 victory in game one and an 8-6 win in game two.

We commend PEFYA Manager Jamie Davis, his staff and his players for this success and for advancing to the state tournament.

The Buckingham Major League All-Star team went 2-2 in the Dixie Youth District 4 Major League All-Star Tournament, finishing as runner-up and advancing to the state tournament.

Though his team lost twice to Goochland, Manager John Toney and his staff helped Buckingham improve in those two games, while the boys also defeated Scottsville 24-0 and Amelia 12-4.

The PEFYA Major League All- Star team finished as runner-up in the Dixie Youth District 5 Major League All-Star Tournament, going 2-2.

The team of 11- and 12-year-old boys, led by Manager Mark Simon and his staff, thrilled fans with a 13-3 win over Lunenburg County and a 9-4 comeback win over Crewe-Burkeville. PEFYA only narrowly lost 8-7 in the title game to Dinwiddie National.

We salute the efforts of the boys and their coaches who have contributed to making summer a special time in our community.
