A 24-year-old Dillwyn man has been charged with reckless driving after he crashed his truck into the ‘Welcome to Farmville’ sign on East Third Street at the Persimmon Tree Fork Road intersection.

According to Captain and Deputy Chief A.Q. “Andy” Ellington, with the Farmville Police Department, the crash was reported at 5:38 p.m. Thursday.

On Friday, only a small portion of the sign was standing.

“It was determined that the vehicle, a 2006 Ford Pickup, was traveling west on Third Street when its driver lost control and crashed through the ‘Welcome to Farmville’ sign,” Ellington said.

Christopher Davis charged in the crash.
