The John H. Daniel Campus of Southside Virginia Community College recently hosted about 20 students from Cumberland High School. According to the college, the students utilized their STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills while stranded in the wilderness using mock scenarios. Additional challenges included building a bridge to secure an additional food source, writing a message to put in a bottle and then figuring out how to waterproof and float it, and making a boat to retrieve additional supplies needed for survival.
