BUCKINGHAM — A 35-year-old man died in an Independence Day single-vehicle accident on Route 638 in Buckingham County.

According to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller, Eugene L. Kyle, of Buckingham, died at the scene of the crash, reported at 8:25 p.m.

The crash occurred several hundred feet south of Route 639, she said.

“A 1998 Volkswagen Passat was traveling north on Route 638 when it ran off the left side of the road. The driver … overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to run off the right side of the road, overturn and strike a tree,” Geller said.

Kyle was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected, she said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
