Former Longwood University star pitchers Mark Montgomery and Aaron Myers and outfield slugger Kyri Washington are representing Longwood at various levels of professional baseball, and all three have found major success since making the jump to the next level.

Montgomery, a 2011 MLB Draft pick in the New York Yankees organization, has sat on the cusp of the majors for the past four seasons. The hard-throwing right-hander has bounced between Double-A and Triple-A since 2014 and is off to a dominant start in his sixth professional season, working as a high-leverage reliever for the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders after beginning the season in Double-A with the Trenton Thunder.

Washington, drafted in the 23rd round of the 2015 draft by the Boston Red Sox, has put on quite an encore to his rookie season, proving to be one of the most feared sluggers at his level. The former Big South home run leader is among the top power threats in the Single-A South Atlantic League, hitting .293 with 21 extra-base hits – including eight homers – through his first 38 games for the Greenville Drive.
Myers, meanwhile, should make his 2016 debut soon in the Milwaukee Brewers system after spending the first half of the season in extended spring training. The Lancers’ all-time strikeouts and saves leader, Myers broke out in his first professional season last year, clocking a 1.74 ERA, three saves and 14 strikeouts in 10.1 innings for the Rookie League AZL Brewers in 2015.
