Spencer Alvin Oliver

Spencer Alvin Oliver, 76, of New Canton, passed away, Sunday, June 12, 2016. He was born May 15, 1940 in Buckingham.
Spencer is survived by his wife, Janice Fay of 50 years; son, Doug and wife, Wendy Oliver; granddaughter, Sydney; brother, William (Billy) Oliver; sister, Mary Alice Lively and a loving extended family.
He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all and was affectionately known in the Arvonia community as “Uncle Al”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Spencer Lewis Oliver and Carrie Whitlow Oliver, his brothers, Roy Whitlow and James (Jimmy) Oliver, and his sisters, Annie Gantt and Grace Marie McDermott.
Spencer was employed as a fixer at Phillip Morris for 30 years and has been enjoying retirement for over 20 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, owner of Sleepy Hollow Kennel and was a member of the Arvonia Hunt Club. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden, and with, the apple of his eye, his granddaughter Sydney.
Family will receive friends at Dunkum Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 15 from 5 -7 p.m.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 16 at First Baptist Church, Dillwyn.
