Park Seeks Volunteers

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is seeking 4-6 volunteers to assist in bridge maintenance on the park’s History/Nature Trail on Saturday.
Along the 4-plus mile trail system, there are three bridges that provide access over creeks for trail users.
The bridges can be slippery and unsafe when they are wet. Volunteers will work in teams to sand three bridges in the park with wire brushes, clean the dirt and debris, and paint the bridge surfaces with nonskid paint. The paint will provide a rougher bridge surface to provide a safe crossing experience for trail users, particularly under wet conditions.
Contact Alyssa Holland, volunteer coordinator for Appomattox Court House NHP, by noon on Friday if you are interested in this service project.
Volunteers will meet park staff at the Lee’s Headquarters pull-off on Route 24 at 8 a.m. The project will conclude at approximately 2 p.m. Volunteers are encouraged to bring proper shoes for use on a trail.
There will be moderate trail walking to cover the distances between the bridges. Distances should not be more than a quarter to a half mile. Also please bring water, snacks and lunches. Work equipment including safety gloves will be provided. For more information, contact Alyssa at (434) 352-8987 ext. 234 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
