The Cumberland County Historical Society will meet on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Cumberland County Museum located in the old clerk’s office at Cumberland Courthouse. The guest speaker will be Bob Flippen, who will talk about John Stanley James, a mysterious Englishman who came to Farmville in 1875, and who is the subject of “The Vagabond Papers.” Through years of research, Flippen contributed to the recently edited book and has been invited to speak at the Melbourne Press Club and the Historical Society of Australia. All are invited to attend.
