Hampden-Sydney College’s Reunion Weekend brought many alumni back to campus to reflect on their years as students on the Hill, but members of the Class of 1966 also had their minds on H-SC’s future.

During the all-class gathering on Saturday, June 4, members of the Class of 1966 announced their gift of $3.3 million to the college.

The contributions went to a variety of programs and scholarships, including the Good Men Good Citizens Scholarship Fund.

Bill Shumadine, ‘66, was the chair of the Class of 1966 Reunion Planning Committee.

He said, “The Class of 1966 came together to make this gift possible. We absolutely love Hampden-Sydney and what it did for us. We also believe the best is yet to come for Hampden-Sydney, so we wanted to do our part by collectively making this gift to help sustain her financially.”

The 50th Reunion Planning Committee also included Frank Booth, Louis Briel, Bill Crawley, Charlie Crist, Denny Finger, Whitey Lipscomb, Jamie Painter, Mike Paulette, John Ragsdale, Mo Shumate, Wave Townes, Joe Tuck and Travis Tysinger.

The other classes celebrating reunions this year also made financial gifts to the college. Together, they totaled nearly $700,000, making the total reunion gifts this year more than $4 million.
