On June 8 and 22, meet park staff at the North Carolina Monument pull-off located on Route 24 east for fun runs. On June 15 and 29, meet park staff at the pull-off on Route 24 for Lee’s Headquarters. Dogs are welcome.

Both loops combine the natural beauty of the park as well as hallowed ground in which fighting in the area directly led to the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865.

Join park staff at the pull-off for Lee’s Headquarters located on Route 24 for nature walks. Dogs are welcome. The trail is moderate in difficulty with a few rolling hills. The trail begins following the footsteps of Lee who chose this site for his last headquarters and last council of war on the day before he surrendered to Grant. The course continues onto a Nature Trail where several varieties of plant life and possible animal life can be observed. Then the trail loops back past the Sweeney Prizery, the oldest building on park grounds, before heading back to the parking lot. Explore the National Park site and play outdoors by taking a walk or a run in the woods. Both trails are moderate in difficulty with a few rolling hills.

Wear proper footwear for running and walking and bring water/fluids for hydration.
