The Farmville Chamber of Commerce held its 10th annual Farmville Chamber Centra Southside Golf Classic on May 12.

Nearly 126 people came together for a day of fellowship, connection and camaraderie at The Manor Golf Club.

The Captain’s Choice tournament kicked off with a shotgun start and scramble at noon and wrapped up at the “19th hole” with a 4 p.m. awards presentation at the pro shop. An after-party was held immediately following the event, catered by the Fishin’ Pig.

“The chamber’s golf tournament is a fantastic opportunity to network and support local business,” said Greg Cole, CEO of The Woodland, one of the tournament’s sponsors. “Plus, golfing is fun,” he said.

This year’s events saw the return of beloved highlights from previous years’ events including the famous helicopter golf ball drop. Fun new additions included a tent sponsored by Gantt Insurance set up at the fourth hole serving Bloody Marys. There was also a chipping contest sponsored by Navona Hart and Real Living Cornerstone and a hole-in-one contest presented by Davis GMC to win a brand new GMC truck valued at $35,000.

To make sure no one walked away empty handed, Taco Bell gave out prizes for last-place finishers.

Todd Dyer was the winner of the golf ball drop and walked away with a $500 prize.

Toby Towler, Core Account sale representative for the Luck Stone Corporation, enjoyed the event and the opportunities it afforded. Luck Stone was one of several sponsors of the 19th hole after-party.

“It’s a good networking opportunity,” he said. “And it’s also a great place to meet people,” Towler added.

Over 50 businesses participated in the event which, despite one of the wettest Mays on record, was gifted with lovely cool weather.

“My biggest joy was that it didn’t rain,” said Chamber Director Joy Stump. This was Stump’s first year chairing the popular event, and she was particularly pleased at the level of enjoyment experienced by the attendees.

“I was really happy that everyone seemed to be having so much fun. I loved seeing people make connections while having such a great time,” Stump said.

This event, which provides businesses an opportunity to increase their visibility and to make valuable connections with one another, is one of many exciting features included with membership in the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce.
