The site plan for the proposed 120-unit apartment complex is being called the Farmville Town Center. Why? Are more apartment buildings planned?

Will Allen, representing the developer, stated at the Feb. 24 planning commission meeting “…the complex will initially consist of 120 residential units, and there is room for additional units to built later.”

However, on May 23, at the planning commission meeting, Town Manager Gerald Spates stated, “…this project is a stand-alone project and they cannot go any further back. They cannot take 5 acres they have purchased and add to property and build additional apartments.”

Two very different interpretations. What is really planned for the Farmville Town Center? The citizens of Farmville are very much in the dark as far as this development is concerned. Shouldn’t we all be let in on the secret?                 

Then there is the issue of the illusive traffic studies and apartment resident surveys. Often mentioned, source documents never presented to the public. As far as I can determine, traffic data has been used from 2013 and 2015 traffic counts referencing a road from a parcel onto Main Street south of Milnwood Road.

Exactly which road are they referring to? It seems to be conspicuously ambiguous.

The safety of our residents should be the No. 1 concern in planning of any new projects. We should always err on the side of caution.
