AKA members attend conference

Members of the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority recently attended the 63rd Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference held in Virginia Beach.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Riding the Waves, While Launching New Dimensions of Service.”

Approximately 2,129 sorority members and their guests were in attendance representing sorority chapters from North Carolina and Virginia.

Conference activities included a public meeting which awarded honors to community leaders in the Mid-Atlantic Region, receptions, an ecumenical service featuring gospel recording artist Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole, an undergraduate step show and mixer, special breakfasts and luncheons honoring leadership, education, undergraduate members, membership of 25 years (silver stars), 50 years (golden) and 75 years (diamond) of service in the sorority.

Bobbie Holman and Smith, members of the chapter, became silver stars for 25 years or more of service to the sorority.

One of the major campaigns in which sorority members participated was the One Million Backpacks project in which the chapter donated backpacks, school supplies and healthy snacks.
