On Friday, May 20, Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC) will host its second annual Scholarship Fund Golf Classic at The Manor Golf Club in Farmville. The tournament will raise funds to create educational scholarships for students who are children of cooperative members.

In 2015, SEC’s first education scholarship golf event raised more than $13,000. Following last year’s success, the tournament will continue as an annual fundraiser to benefit the Southside Opportunity Fund.

The newly initiated fund, which is currently awaiting 501(c)3 status, will award $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing educational opportunities beyond high school.

This year, SEC will award a total of 12 scholarships to local high school seniors. These scholarships will assist those planning to attend a college or a technical/training school after graduation. A number of scholarships will also be reserved for students enrolling in Southside Virginia Community College’s Power Line Worker Training School.

Registration for the captain’s choice tournament will run from 8:45-9:45 a.m., with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

A foursome package includes carts, range balls and a boxed lunch with three drink tickets per golfer, all for $400. Sponsorships are also available.
