Proud of our police

Arlene Mosher, Jennifer Halliday, Janet Bowles and the other members of the Farmville Police Department Citizen’s Advisory Board are true examples of what our communities need and should be doing to support and stand behind our police officers and deputies.

Last week, during national Police Appreciation Week, the volunteers presented meals and gifts galore to members of the department — something they deserve because of their hard and dangerous work in keeping us safe.

Little gestures can go a long way in supporting our law enforcement officers. A simple “thank you” can send a true message of appreciation.

We should support our police departments and sheriff’s offices 365 days a year, not just during one week.

On behalf of the community, we say thank you to Sheriff William G. “Billy” Kidd Jr. of Buckingham and his entire staff.

We appreciate Prince Edward Sheriff Wesley W. Reed and his staff and deputies for keeping our community safe.

We’re lucky to have Cumberland Sheriff Darrell Hodges and his deputies and staff in our community.

We say thanks to Farmville Police Chief Curtis Davis and his stellar staff for taking care of Farmville’s residents.

The thanks of this community also goes out to Longwood University Police Chief Robert Beach and Hampden-Sydney Police Chief Scott Williams and their departments for their hard work.

Each sheriff’s office and police department is made up of good men and women who deserve our thanks and appreciation all year round — an important concept that we should all embrace.
