The heritage, history and people of Buckingham County will be celebrated at Mayfest on Saturday at the Historic Village at 84 Lee Wayside Road off of U.S. Route 60.
The event, which is the community’s new Buckingham County Day, will begin at 10 a.m. and wrap up at about 3 p.m.
The event will feature food, exhibits, a Maypole, a climbing wall, buggy rides, ice cream, a blacksmith exhibit, car show, a kid’s area and much more. Live music will be provided by the Cabin Creek Bluegrass Band on the village stage, according to Martha Louis, president of Historic Buckingham, which organizes the annual event.
“We’ll have barbeque, Vidalia onion rings, cotton candy and ice cream and baked goods,” she said. A car show is a new addition to this year’s event. “The village blacksmith will be there,” Louis said. “Plants from the Buckingham-Dillwyn Garden Club. New this year (is) the climbing wall.”
“Mayfest will be a family-friendly day. (There’s) no admission charge. Come out, have time with your family, enjoy the food (and) the different exhibits.” Arts and crafts will be part of this year’s event, she said.
The three gold sponsors include Southside Virginia Electric Cooperative, the Buckingham Chamber of Commerce and Buckingham Family Dentistry.
