Katherine Smith ‘Kitty’ Lyle

Katherine Smith “Kitty” Lyle, 89, of Gladstone, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 in Lynchburg. Born in Fordwick, September 25, 1926, Kitty was the daughter of the late Virginia Belle Via Smith and Roy Miller Smith Sr.

She was employed for many years with Nelson County Public Schools. Kitty was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Gladstone Ladies Auxiliary, Gladstone Senior Center, and Nelson County Triad. She loved to watch WWE Wrestling and Family Feud with Steve Harvey. She especially loved to sing and did so even in her last hours.

Surviving are her husband, Willis A. “Wick” Lyle of Gladstone; daughter, Peggy Kisemore (Larry) of Churchville, Nancy Kershner (Billy) of Churchville, Michelle Kitchen (Earl) of Wingina, Amy Benson (Jeff) of Stuarts Draft, Tracy Carter of Gladstone, and Lori Gabriel (Leonard) of Dillwyn; stepson, Willis Lyle Jr. (Glenna) of Waynesboro; sisters, Nelson Wade (Harold) of Swoope and Jean Nessar of Staunton; ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends, including Shirley O’Brien, Shirley Gunter, Sheila Savage, David Brooks, Mary Martin and Nellie Mayo. She was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Hodge, Faye Koogler-Rife, and Judy Grimm, brother, Roy M. Smith Jr., grandchildren, Sebron Kitchen and Greg Lyle, and son-in-law, Lee Carter.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 3 at Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst with interment in Antioch Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Buckingham County.
