H-SC’s Carneal, Johnson earn All-Region Honors

Hampden-Sydney baseball seniors Lee Carneal (Charlottesville/Albemarle) and Reggie Johnson (Dunnsville/Essex) have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-South Region Third Team. Both were key to the Tigers’ program-record 28 wins this season.

Carneal, a two-time All-ODAC pick, batted a team-best .376 on the season with 53 hits. He was second on the team in runs (27) and led the team in doubles (11), RBI (37) and walks (25). Carneal hit safely in 34 of his 40 games, while also recording 17 multi-hit games and ending his career on a nine-game hit streak.

Johnson was strong both on the mound and in center field for the Tigers. On the bump, he started in 12 of his 14 appearances with 77.1 innings and two complete games. He boasted a 2.91 ERA with a 4-3 record and 66 strikeouts to just 19 walks. At the plate, he batted .275 with 25 hits, including four doubles, two triples and one home run, to go with 15 RBI and 15 runs scored.
