A vehicle accident in Cumberland has disabled the ability for residents to call the sheriff’s office using the information line.

Residents can only contact the sheriff’s office by calling 911, according to Sheriff Darrell Hodges.

The accident on U.S. Route 60, west of the courthouse, occurred at about 9 a.m., according to Hodges.

“It cut the fiber optic cable, so our information lines are down to the sheriff’s office,” Hodges said.

He said it won’t be until Monday when the lines connected to the office number, (804) 492-4120, are restored.
