Tigers hold on for 7-6 win over #2 R-MC

ASHLAND — The Hampden-Sydney baseball team completed a season sweep of arch-rival Randolph-Macon, downing the second-ranked Yellow Jackets 7-6 at Estes Park. With the win, the Tigers improve to 24-13 overall and 10-8 in ODAC play, while Randolph-Macon drops to 26-6-1 overall and 12-6 in conference.

The Yellow Jackets scored the first run of the game in the second inning, but the Tigers used four runs in the top of the third to take their first lead of the game. Dustin Wiles (Belmont, NC/South Point) started off the scoring when he crossed home plate on a bases loaded walk by Lee Carneal (Charlottesville/Albemarle). John Lloyd (Glen Allen/Deep Run) then singled to score Brian Goodwyn (Chester/Thomas Dale) to take the lead. Tyler Blevins (Draper/Pulaski) grounded out to first base to score Moe Gothe (Chester/Thomas Dale), and then Carneal scored on an RBI-single from Jacob Fontana(Midlothian/Clover Hill).
