HAMPDEN SYDNEY — A debate among the Republican contenders  seeking the party’s nomination for the Fifth District congressional seat is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Crawley Forum at Hampdpen-Sydney College.

Participating in the debate are state Sen. Tom Garrett, Jim McKelvey, Michael Del Rosso and Joe Whited, according to an event spokeswoman.

The debate is being sponsored by Republican Committees in Buckingham, Cumberland and Prince Edward counties and the H-SC College Republicans.

U.S. Rep. Robert Hurt said in December that he wouldn’t seek re-election to the House of Representatives.

The debate is free and open to the public.
