Longwood University’s National Student Speech, Language and Hearing Association will host “Celebrate Sound: Don’t Walk in Silence,” an informational and fundraising event, on Sunday, April 24.
The event will feature a 5K walk along High Bridge Trail and free hearing screenings, consultation with audiologist Dr. Mani Aguilar of Longwood, information booths, games, raffles and concessions at the Farmville Train Station after the walk.
The walk, which will begin at 1 p.m. with preregistration starting at noon, is part of a national effort to increase awareness of the need to protect the gift of hearing. It also will raise funds for local and national scholarships. More than 50 million Americans are affected by hearing loss.
Registration is $20 per adult, $10 for children 6-12, and free for those 5 and under. To register to be a walker or make a donation, visit www.celebratesound.org, or make checks payable to Sertoma Inc. Celebrate Sound. Participants can register the day of the event.
