Saturday is National Healthcare Decisions Day, a national health observance designed to emphasize the importance of planning for health emergencies and end-of-life care.
National Healthcare Decisions Day encourages adults of all ages to make their wishes and expectations about medical care and end-of-life care known to loved ones and then to solidify these wishes in an advance directive.
“It’s about having a conversation on decisions that need to be discussed before a health crisis arises,” according to a release. “Who will speak for you when you can’t speak for yourself? Does your family know your wishes? Does your family know your decision as far as life support? What is meaningful to you?”
“Talk to family and friends, make sure your voice is heard and then have it solidified with an advance directive or living will document. National Healthcare Decisions day starts with a conversation that should include your end-of-life expectations and all pertinent documentary information that needs to be shared,” the release stated.
