H-SC baseball splits doubleheader with BC

Hampden-Sydney and Bridgewater baseball teams split two pitching battles on Saturday with each team taking a 2-1 victory.

The Tigers were able to maintain a lead in the first game as Eric O’Brien (Richmond/Douglas Freeman) and Dylan Gonzales (Richmond/J.R. Tucker) each pitched three scoreless innings. Zach Perkins (Appomattox/Appomattox) collected his fifth save after retiring three batters in the ninth.

Reggie Johnson (Dunnsville/Essex) pitched three innings, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts.

Game two was another pitcher’s duel, with Bridgewater being the only team to cross the plate through the first seven innings with one run in the third and seventh.

Hampden-Sydney returns to action on Wednesday, when it travels to Lynchburg College for a 3:30 p.m. game.
