On Saturday Appomattox Court House National Historical Park will participate in the 21st annual Park Day sponsored by the Civil War Trust (CWT), formally the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT), and the History Channel.

Park Day is an opportunity to help with cleanup and preservation projects on some of the nation’s most sacred grounds. This event was originally scheduled for April 2 but was rescheduled due to weather. This year’s project will be rebuilding and whitewashing a large section of picket fence within the historic village of Appomattox Court House. Participants should arrive at the park at 8:45 a.m. and if possible stay until 3-3:30 p.m. Water and snacks will be provided, but participants should bring their own lunch. The CWT will provide T-shirts to all volunteers.

“It’s an excellent opportunity to contribute to preservation of our nation’s Civil War sites and parks for the present and for future generations,” a park spokesperson said.
