In memory of C.H. “Mike” Lafoon, the Town of Farmville’s Tree Board gave away free tree seedlings on Saturday at the Farmer’s Market. “As part of its annual Arbor Day celebration, the Town of Farmville’s Tree Board will be handing out more than 800 seedling trees (bare-root bald cypress, persimmon and redbud),” said Katie Register, the board’s co-chair, in a press release before the event. The Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners helped distribute the seedlings. We commend the leaders of the tree board for celebrating Arbor Day by making the community healthier and greener through the giveaway, and we also thank them for choosing a great man and leader for the community to honor and remember. Along with serving as a member of the tree board, Lafoon was insturmental in numerous projects in Farmville and served its citizens in many capacities.
