Longwood head women’s tennis coach Bruce Myers has resigned from his position at the university after accepting the head men’s tennis coach position at the University of Delaware.
Longwood will begin a search for Myers’ replacement immediately.
In the interim, Longwood head men’s tennis coach Pierre Tafelski will volunteer to assist with coaching duties, while assistant women’s soccer coach Rich Stoneman will also assist in running the program.
Myers compiled a 16-21 overall record and a 2-8 mark in Big South play during his two seasons at Longwood.
This year, he guided the Lancers to a 6-7 record through the first half of the season, including a 1-2 start in Big South play.
“I honestly have never done anything more difficult than tell my Longwood student-athletes that I was leaving,” said Myers in a statement that followed press release.
“There are a ton of things that I am leaving behind: great friendships, wonderful professional relationships and the family atmosphere that is fostered at Longwood and especially in Longwood athletics.”
In his first season, Myers was selected by the Longwood Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the 2014-15 Longwood Coach of the Year.
That season, he coached Longwood ace Malin Allgurin, who went 10-12 at the No. 1 singles spot and broke the school’s Division I wins record with 59 career victories.
