A traditional Flintlock Rifle Workshop was held at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center March 6-11.
In March 2004, Jimmy Blanks, workshop instructor, built a Pennsylvania-style late 1700s flintlock rifle. Several years later, Blanks donated the rifle to the 4-H Center to be raffled. Taking about two years to sell all 300 tickets, the raffle was held in October 2010. Roy Powell, who won the raffle, recently brought the gun back to the 4-H Center during this year’s workshop to meet the man who built it.
The Traditional Flintlock Rifle Workshop is held at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center each year in March. The week-long workshop offers several kit options, the Lancaster Pennsylvania Rifle-.50 or .54 caliber, the York Pennsylvania Rifle-.40,.45 or.50 caliber, the Isaac Haines Rifle-.50 or .54 caliber, the Mark Silver Virginia Rifle-.58 or.62 caliber, the Little Feller – .40,.45, or .50 caliber and the Smooth Rifle – 20 gauge.
