Clyde Ownby, 96, of Cumberland, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Ownby, mother, Pearl W. Ownby, and brothers, Fred Ownby, Gene Ownby and Gordon Ownby.

Mr. Ownby is survived by his wife of 74 years, Lavern Whaley Ownby; a son, Clyde Carlton Ownby; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ownby; a granddaughter, Jessica Ownby; a brother, John L. Ownby Jr. of Cumberland; a sister, Mildred Craddock of Washington, NC and a number of nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you to Clyde’s nieces Judy and Carol Ownby.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Keysville and the staff of Centra Southside Hospital for all the care they provided.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m.–8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23 at Shorter Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 24 in Jones Chapel Baptist Church, Cumberland.
