The Buckingham County Friends of the Library is once again holding a St. Patrick’s Day celebration to benefit the Buckingham County Public Library New Building Fund. The event will be held on Friday, March 18, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Buckingham County VFW Hall located at 14405 W. James Anderson Highway. The price is $30/person or $50/couple and includes pub snacks and two servings of beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. Best of all, entertainment will be provided by the rousing music of Sean Fir, our very talented and local Irish-American folk group. Tickets are being sold at the Buckingham County Public Library located at 1140 Main St. in Dillwyn. The community is invited to this important and enjoyable fundraiser. For further information, e-mail bclfrc@gmail.com or call (434) 969-4886.
Buckingham County High School’s JROTC is hosting the JROTC 100th anniversary Fun Run on Saturday, April 23, at 11a.m. at the high school. The JROTC Fun Run provides the opportunity to participate in a worldwide event to commemorate 100 years of JROTC service to America. Units will also be able to raise funds or to contribute toward service learning and community service projects. Students across the globe will run/walk/march at their school’s track, nearby running course, or even a neighborhood park. The overall goal is to have a simultaneous start time in order to allow participating units to connect via social media and to be able to view locations worldwide to truly appreciate the scope and magnitude of this event.
The cost for JROTC/ROTC cadets is free. All other participants, including family, friends and community members will be charged $24 and will receive a 100th anniversary commemorative T-shirt. Cadets have the opportunity at registration to receive or purchase this commemorative T-shirt for $15 if they desire. Units hosting Fun Runs will receive $5 for their local programs for each non-cadet who registers for their event. For more information contact Bruce Grazier at bgrazier@bcpschools.org.
Spring approaches (crocuses have already been sighted), and we expect more activities to be planned and to take place. Let us know what your group or civic organization is doing so that we can spread the word for you.
