Ruth Pearl Kelsey Simpson, 101, of Prospect, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016. She was born in Farmville to the late Philander Kelsey Sr. and Ruby Baldwin Kelsey on August 20, 1914. She was married to the late Averette Simpson Sr. and loved quilting, ceramics and cooking for her family.

She was a lifetime member of Appomattox PE Presbyterian Church and was inducted as a life member of the Presbyterian Woman.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by her son, Averette Simpson (Mary K) of Prospect; a daughter, Susan S. Shirley (Bill) of Churchville; a brother, Carl Kelsey (Sadie) of Farmville; a sister, Nancy Williams (Sonny) of Newport News; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Averett Simpson, a great-grandson, Luke McCloud Shirley, four brothers and six sisters.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 13 at the Appomattox PE Presbyterian Church.
